In a year not too distant from our own, an Angel falls from heaven, “not that special an occurrence” I hear you say, many had fallen before. And under normal circumstances you might be right, but on this occasion, not only was he the first for over a thousand years, he was also the first with a heart and soul clearer than the skies of heaven itself.
Now where did he fall, I hear you ask? Well, that’s where the story begins, and as it turns out, ends in a strange kind of a way. No one quite knows exactly what happened when he arrived, but he seems to have landed himself in the middle of one of London’s, and indeed the world’s richest families. “Lucky bugger” I her you say! But, as our story unfolds, you’ll begin to see how a person with a soul so pure, can ultimately be groomed to a modern life in the fast lane of business and commerce. However, as hinted to earlier, this is no normal Angel we’re dealing with here. As time goes on, the protagonist of the story begins to rebel, not just through his evolving years, but in later life too, leaving the world he was born into for a life of hardship and disguise, and ultimately free to live a life he alone chooses.
Born with a silver spoon, the Angel of our story truly did have it all. A child of the sixties our hero first fell from grace in his early days. Friends were easily bought, but friendships never really existed. Many of his early days were spent alone in the company of family staff or hated relations, all of whom were equally dysfunctional.
The eighties were happier times for our Angel, the end of school, a gap year abroad and some genuine good times at University. However, the realisation was always to be the golden ticket into the family business, and however hard he tried, the fact that he was his father’s son always seemed to work against him with other family members and colleagues alike.
Brought onto the board during the 90’s, the pressures of position and lifestyle were to weigh heavy upon the wings of our Angel. Sex, drugs, and rock n roll were all easily bought, as were so called friends. Eventually though this lifestyle would again take its toll, and his impending breakdown was always on the cards. The only form of escape it seems was to withdraw onto the streets of London where strange as it seems, our Angel finally feels free.
With the advent of the millennium, our Angel again has his life taken away, and rehab followed by the torture of returning to the company, forces him to take the step back towards personal heaven. As with the Angels of ancient times he survives, and our protagonist faces the same dilemmas as he once again becomes a watcher of the streets.
Of course, the Angels divided family will never settle for their heir to turn his back on their empire, and he has to contend with a last gasp attempt from his family to lure him back into his personal hell. However, with all the things said our watcher decides to disappear completely, never to be seen again. Or does he?
